Kineticom is seeking a highly competent and technically advanced Field Engineer/Tower Climber to build and maintain a sophisticated high performance network infrastructure.

This position will be supporting a cutting edge firm responsible for developing and maintaining high-performance technology infrastructure backed by a world class support team. As a member of the wireless network team, you will be backed by a 24x7 Network Operations Center while you are actively supporting from the field, testing and troubleshooting a wide range of technical, IP-based equipment on tower & rooftop based sites.

Details:

What You'll Do: 
  • Promptly respond to network outages; Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment on site to resolve issues in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Climb and perform construction activities on communications structures for the purpose of installing, replacing, and repairing microwave antenna systems and other tower mounted equipment.
  • Learn the company established standards and best practices to ensure consistent high quality work product.
  • Proactively communicate information related to projects and tasks.
  • Participate in technical and physical on-the-job training to learn new skill sets as needed. 
  • Fiber splicing using cutting edge equipment and techniques.
  • Regularly complete mandatory company certifications. 
  • Use tools, such as Spectrum analyzers and OTDRs, to investigate and isolate technical network issues.
  • Other duties as assigned or needed.

Skills You'll Need: 
  • Experience working with microwave or millimeter technology is a plus.
  • Installation of steel structures to towers or other structures to facilitate the installation of telecommunications equipment and antennas.
  • Microwave antenna & equipment installation, path alignment, and troubleshooting.
  • Previous Tower Certification (Authorized Climber/Rescuer) required.
  • Able to complete OSHA 10 certification
  • Previous CPR/First aid training preferred.
  • Experience with AC and/or DC power systems.
  • Fiber optic splicing or troubleshooting experience is a plus.
  • Experience with coax cabling. Must be capable of cable termination; Troubleshooting with Site master or similar equipment is a plus.
  • Experience using test equipment to diagnose and troubleshoot network issues is a plus.
  • Capable of learning basic computer networking. 
  • Must be comfortable using Microsoft Office applications and have general PC knowledge.
  • Proven ability to maintain clean, safe, and orderly working environments.
  • Safely operate all supporting equipment, including large vehicles, and rigging equipment.
  • Must be highly motivated and proactive.
  • Strong analytic and creative problem-solving abilities desired.
  • Willingness to take on and learn new tasks, as needed.
  • Flexibility with regards to work priority changes and predictable availability.

Physical Requirements:
*    Ability to competently climb all types of structures and towers up to 800 ft if required; Majority of towers climbed are between 150-350ft.
*    Travel is 60% - 100%. - Deploy from home, must be able to park take-home work vehicle.
o    IL operations are between Aurora and South Bend.
o    Will be requested to work in IN along I80. Typical range is approx. 2 hours.
o    Occasional travel outside of these areas will be required.
o    Overnight stays will be required. If based in IL less than 40%.
*    Ability to work overtime, evenings, and on call required. Occasional weekend work is required as needed or as part of on-call.
*    Willingness to work outside or inside in hot and cold weather conditions for long periods of time if required.
*    Long haul driving, sometimes up to 10 hours in a work shift; Majority of driving is between 1-3 hours.
*    Required to be on feet/standing in one place 60% to 100% of the time.
